Banking on DATA:
Check Imaging
Since the mid 1990's, many banks and other financial institutions
have invested heavily in digital imaging products to reduce costs
and improve customer service. Check imaging is one area that banks
have looked at closely.
More than 40 billion checks are written annually in the United States.
The number of checks continues to remain substantial despite the advent
of e-commerce and electronic banking.
Check information, whether stored as originals, as paper copies,
on microfilm, or digitally, must retained for a minimum of five years
(depending on the state).
|
In addition to storage costs, research and customer inquiries can
greatly increase costs.
With check imaging, both storage and image access (research and inquiry)
costs can be greatly reduced through automated processes.
A complete check imaging/ workflow system from companies like CSC
and NCR indexes the checks as they are scanned.
A single CD can store the images for about 10,000 checks (front and
back). Data Assurance provides a number of "back office"
solutions for check imaging applications.

Depending on the requirements, various CD recording solutions can
be deployed, including , MPS4+ which is a direct attach solution for
over 25 Unix platforms. iJukeBox is a NAS device that can store millions
of check images online for secure, non-rewritable access both internally
and over the internet.
All of our solutions provide unattended operation for seamless image
storage. When creating CDs or DVDs for offsite or archive purposes,
our disc autoloaders record and label 300 discs at a time.
